The world premiere of the apparently hard drinkin' Nicolás López's Aftershock was anything but a disaster on Tuesday night. López, Eli Roth, and some of the rest of the cast of the earthquake horror walked the red carpet at the Ryerson and Ian Goring was there to catch all the action!

Nicolás López has had a wild career. Aftershock marks his first appearance at the Toronto International Film Festival, but his work has been shown at numerous other festivals all over the world including South By Southwest, Sitges and Fantastic Fest. At age 17, he dropped out of high school to create an MTV Latin America show called Piloto MTV, the premise of which had López, appearing as himself, pitch a different new show idea to MTV in each episode--and get rejected.
At age 20 (having returned to high school and obtained his diploma), he directed and co-wrote his first feature film, the gonzo high school comedy Promedio Rojo.
In 2008, he upped the scope with his nutty superhero comedy Santos.
Then he delivered back-to-back relationship comedies with the sweetly titled Fuck My Life (2010):

When last we had left director and producer Eli Roth, he had commented on 15 film trailers for the mighty Trailers From Hell. Eli Roth is returning to Midnight Madness this year as the star of Nicolás López Aftershock and he's returned to Trailers From Hell with a commentary on the trailer for the controversial, Goodbye, Uncle Tom an exploitation film that's not Blaxploitation of sexploitation, so much as slavesploitation. As it's described at Trailers From Hell:
Those Mondo Cane guys are back with an astoundingly non-P.C. farrago
purporting to expose the history of black subjugation in pre-Civil War
America. Gorgeously mounted but stunningly exploitative, it was rated X
when first released in the States in a considerably reworked version.
